Good evening, everyone. I hope that you are all ok. Plymouth has been sitting under a deluge of rain all day - it feels like it hasn't got light at all. It would be a wild exaggeration to say that I suffer from SAD, but I can tend a little towards the miserable crow persuasion when it's like this. And... I had a three-day migraine (low level but annoying). And... I spent what seemed like a short lifetime sorting out and reviewing our monthly budget, only to accidentally close the page down and lose it all. And...my (very half-hearted) attempt at improving the quality of the food that I eat has been royally scuppered by Marks and Spencer's Peppermint Bark Cookies. Good Grief. Also, HOH doesn't like mint very much, and I am having to eat them all. Anyway, all this wingeing is annoying and needs to be dealt with. Sooo...in the spirit of "my attitude is gratitude", I have been working on pulling myself together and have done so via the medium of thinking of things that are good and I should be grateful for (even if I am not always). My list is as follows
1. Marks and Spencer's Peppermint Bark Cookies. Delicious. Also, HOH doesn't like mint, so I am having to eat them all. Hurrah!
2. Mortimer and Whitehead are back. Who would have thought that a programme watching two middle-aged blokes fishing would be so life-affirming?
3. Jasmine won the Great British Bake Off. This was (a) correct because she was the best and (b) because she is beautiful and awesome. Chuffed to discover that she is a Christian. Always cheering to discover Christians that are a credit rather than people in baseball caps waving big sticks and shouting "They don't like it up 'em" at poor people and immigrants.
4. We visited FOW2 and got to play with this beauty.
5. HOH and I have spent a good few weeks out of the services recently - not wagging it (Well, not always) but doing "good works" around the building - making coffee, welcoming people at the door, taking emergency easy peelers to a children's group. However, we got to go into the actual service this morning, and it was more than a little comforting to be reminded of the truths of our faith - including how loved and secure we are.
For the record, it was about the Roman Centurion who came to Jesus about his sick servant. I thought it was startling that Jesus' immediate reaction was "I'll come and heal him." No games, no hesitation, just "I'll come and sort this."
6. This weekend has been a weekend of gratitude and remembrance. Our King seemed to be very emotional at the Cenotaph. Can I say that I am very much enjoying a monarch who isn't afraid to get a bit wobbly-lipped when the occasion demands it? That may be a consequence of not being very well and consequently being very aware of your mortality. I bowed to nobody in my admiration for our own dear queen, but she may have overdone the stoic sometimes. I mean, she had been everywhere, seen everything, got the t-shirt and the free tiaras, so you can understand it. Also, well done to The Metro for their headline "Tears of the Crown." Excellent work there.
There you go. Nothing life-changing. Nothing that will get me on Spotlight news. I haven't nipped off to Monte Carlo or spent a fortune on a face mask. I didn't accidentally run into Denzel Washington by Smeaton's Lighthouse. It's quite a little life. It's ok as well. Have a good week.
